She peeked through a hole in a door and found herself looking into the old theater that would become the Amargos Opera House and her future. And while her husband tended to the car, Marta explored the nearby buildings. While on a performance tour of the West, she and her husband got stuck at Amargosa due to a flat tire. In the spring of 1967, Marta Becket, by then a 43-year-old, aging but still successful dancer and artist, came to Death Valley Junction by coincidence.
